Project Overview
Thank you for visiting! In Spring 2020, the Adult Education and Literacy division of the Texas Workforce Commission aimed to help adult learners improve their job prospects. Many need just a few skills to excel in job interviews, whether it’s reading, writing, English proficiency, or digital literacy.

The Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy & Learning (TCALL) at Texas A&M University received a $500,000 grant to create 20 video lessons in English and 20 in Spanish, based on needs identified by adult education teachers across Texas. A team of about 35 people, including students, teachers, instructional designers, and a video crew, developed lesson plans aligned with the Texas Adult Education Content Standards and filmed them at various locations. Ashly Winkle, Technology PD Specialist at TCALL, managed the project, coordinating shoots, gathering lesson plans, and creating all resources.

Our primary filming location was Irving ISD’s Adult Education building, with additional footage shot at a senior center, a community center, and the Carnegie Historical Library in Downtown Bryan, Texas.

Story Premise
We created a narrative where students interview for jobs at a fictitious hospital, the Adult Ed Medical Center (Adult Ed Med), which was expanding during the COVID-19 pandemic. The lessons aim to enhance their job prospects at Adult Ed Med.
